When it comes to your beloved pets, finding the right pet sitter is essential. Whether you're planning a vacation, have a busy work schedule, or simply need an extra hand, a trustworthy and reliable pet sitter ensures that your furry friends receive the care and attention they deserve. In this blog post, we will discuss important questions to ask and factors to consider when choosing the right pet sitter for your precious companions, helping you make an informed decision.
1. Experience and Qualifications:
Start your search by asking potential pet sitters about their experience and qualifications. Inquire about their background in pet care, whether they have any formal training, and if they are certified in pet first aid or CPR. Experienced pet sitters will have the necessary knowledge and skills to handle various situations and provide the highest level of care for your pets.

2. Services and Specializations:
Consider the specific needs of your pets and match them with the services provided by the pet sitter. Some pet sitters specialize in certain types of animals, such as dogs, cats, or exotic pets, while others may offer a broader range of services. Ensure that the pet sitter is comfortable and experienced in caring for your specific type of pet and can accommodate any unique requirements they may have.
Our Services and Specializations:
Our services can by found here We provide services in the pet's home. We also provide services to a variety of animals. Some of the pets we have taken care of in the past include, dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, a variety of reptiles, birds, hamsters, rabbits, chickens, horses, and more.
We also have certified veterinarian technicians as part of our team of pet sitters. We are comfortable providing medication both orally and injected. We have taken care of paralyzed pets, old pets, young pets, pets in diapers, and more.
3. Availability and Flexibility:
Ask about the pet sitter's availability and whether they can accommodate your specific schedule. Determine if they can provide services during weekends, holidays, or extended periods if needed. Flexibility is crucial, especially for unpredictable circumstances or last-minute changes in your plans. A pet sitter who can align with your schedule and provide reliable care will give you peace of mind.
Our Availability and Flexibility:
At Furriendly Critter Sitters LLC, we currently have 7 pet sitters and I am hiring for our 8th. We like to have open availability so we are there when you need us. Since we opened, never once have we told a pet or their parent's that we are overbooked and too busy to accommodate their scheduling request. We may need to adjust the scheduled times a little but we will always be there when you need us. I like to tell pet parents that if we ever get too busy, I just hire another pet sitter.
We also have flexibility with your return times. We understand that things come up which are out of your control. Flights may be delayed, you may have to come back earlier due to an emergency. We are always here if your services need to be adjusted.
4. References and Reviews:
A reputable pet sitter should be able to provide references from satisfied clients. Reach out to these references and inquire about their experiences with the pet sitter. Additionally, check online reviews and testimonials to gather more information about their reputation and the quality of their services. Feedback from other pet owners can offer valuable insights when making your decision.
Our References and Reviews:
We will gladly provide references from many of our satisfied clients. If the ones with fur, feathers, fins, and scales could talk they would say the same. We also have a 5 star rating on both Google and Facebook.
5. Meet and Greet:
Arrange a meet and greet with the potential pet sitter to assess their compatibility with your pets. Observe their behavior and interaction with your furry friends, noting their confidence, patience, and attentiveness. This meeting will allow you to gauge whether the pet sitter understands your pet's needs and if everyone seems comfortable with one another.
Our Meet and Greet:
We are proud to provide a meet and greet at no charge to our new clients. This is a good time for both us as pet sitters and you as the pet parent to evaluate if we are a good fit for each other. Also, we can get to know you and your pet and learn the pet's routine and care instructions.
6. Insurance and Bonding:
Inquire about the pet sitter's insurance coverage and bonding. This ensures that they are protected against accidents, injuries, or property damage that could occur while they are caring for your pets. Knowing that the pet sitter is insured and bonded provides an added layer of security for both you and your pets.
Our Insurance and Bonding:
We are fully insured and bonded with Pet Care Insurance. As mentioned above, all of our pet sitters are also background checked.
7. Communication and Updates:
Ask how the pet sitter will keep you informed about your pets' well-being and daily activities. Regular updates, such as text messages, photos, or written reports, help you stay connected and provide peace of mind while you're away. Clear communication and open dialogue contribute to a successful pet-sitting arrangement.
Our Communication and Updates:
We have an online system and an app for pet parents to easily schedule their services and to pay any invoices. Through the system, you may chat with me and your pet sitter and get GPS tracked visit reports. If you book a drop-in you will see a map of where we clocked in and out so you can have peace of mind that we are providing top-notch care. If you book a dog walk, a map will be provided that shows the route we took. Also, included with every visit are photos and videos of your pet(s). We understand that being away from your pet can be nerve wracking so we provide plenty of photos to make the time away a little easier. Lastly, each visit provides a report card of care for every pet. It will indicate if the pet ate or drank, if they went number 1 or 2, if they got medication, etc.
